01 Nov Launch of new player and athlete journey programme

Switch the Play is delighted to use its attendance at ‘Athlete Futures’ today in Coventry to launch its new player and athlete journey programme to help individuals directly with managing a transition out of their existing career.

Having worked extensively with Director Leon Lloyd and a diverse range of Switch the Play Associates and Ambassadors who have experienced transition first hand, the new approach details a clear, coherent and comprehensive programme of support to ensure individuals have access to appropriate expertise and resources to successfully navigate their first 12-18 months outside of a sports performance environment.

Having consulted with a range of external partners and stakeholders, Switch The Play also believes this new model is sufficiently flexible to be utilised across sports, within different ages and stages of the talent or performance pathway, and is equally applicable to those members of the workforce (coaches, directors of sport, support service staff) experiencing a similar period of change. The concept behind our Athlete Journey is driven by Leon’s experiences since launching his book, and weekly communication from across the globe with athletes and players asking for advice, support and insight.

Underpinned by our unique approach to the Change Curve, delivered in partnership with the global assessment experts Thomas International, allowing individuals tailored and bespoke access to highly qualified mentors and coaches, and giving the opportunity to learn from our masterclass portfolio, we believe this is a truly unique and market leading approach for athlete transition.

Switch The Play is looking to work with NGBs of sport, professional clubs, institutions and player associations to help implement the Athlete Journey for individuals or groups of people about to enter their own transition journey.
