30 Aug STP appointed by David Ross Education Trust
DRET have recently commissioned Switch the Play to investigate, define and cost a proposal to develop a multi-sport residential junior performance centre at Charnwood College, Loughborough.
Switch the Play directors and a team of Associates are undertaking a number of consultancy and investigative activities over an 8-week period which include engagement with National Governing Bodies of sport, Sport England, Loughborough University, Millfield School and Loughborough College.
The work seeks to embrace existing talent development activities at Charnwood, which includes the hosting of the Leicester Riders AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence), but also build further partnership work with NGB talent pathways to secure new programmes on site.
Given one of our Director’s design, implementation and leadership of the AASE programme for over a decade, it is an exciting opportunity for the organisation. Hopefully the DRET vision of working with a suite of partners to connect the performance pathway to the state school gates compliments the original vision for Switch the Play – helping individuals fulfil their potential through and beyond sport.
Charnwood aims to include boarding provision at several entry points, access to enviable coaching, and the opportunity to train regularly on-site, whilst accessing a strong academic education. The partners anticipate a strong multi-sport offer with access to high quality specialist training in a selection of sports and see great value in developing a highly regarded Centre of Sporting Excellence where children can also be developed into top-flight coaches and sports officials – a strong driver for STP Directors in developing a workforce for the future. We look forward to seeing this exciting work come to fruition.
