07 Nov Switch The Play Announces Metro Bank CEO As Non Executive Chair

As the newly appointed Non Executive Chair of Switch The Play, Craig Donaldson plans to transform the way athletes are supported through their careers, by injecting his own talent for disrupting the status quo: a formula he has already successfully applied in his role as CEO of Metro Bank.

Craig is one of the City’s most forward-thinking and innovative bankers. His talents will be added to an already impressive Board of Directors at Switch The Play, which include Beth Tweddle, Britain’s most-decorated artistic gymnast, and Leon Lloyd, Rugby International and author of ‘Life After Sport’. The notable calibre of Board members will support the social enterprise, as it works to become the leading provider of support services for athletes throughout their careers.

Having worked in banking for over two decades, Craig wanted to challenge the way banks traditionally deliver their services and turn the focus onto customers. So, when an opportunity arose to help launch a bank committed to offering superior levels of customer service, Craig jumped at the chance. Today, Metro Bank has over 50 stores across London and the South and has opened over a million business and retail accounts.

“Sometimes you need to challenge the norm in order to initiate significant change”, explained Craig. “This is what I’m doing with Metro Bank, and this is what I plan to do, along with the rest of the Switch The Play team, with regards to the way athlete transition is viewed and supported. As a nation, we are incredibly good at celebrating athlete success, but we can fall short when it comes to supporting athletes as they transition to life outside of sport. I’m delighted to be working with Switch the Play and know that by working together, we can help drive lasting positive change.”

Speaking about Craig’s appointment, Beth Tweddle says: “Engaging talent like Craig enables us to further raise awareness of this widespread issue. Working with others in this sector we want to develop more effective policies, products and services to ensure that we are helping athletes at every stage of their career. These are really exciting times and I am looking forward to Craig’s input and guidance which will help Switch The Play will make a difference over the coming months and years.”
