30 Jul Switch the Play announces Partnership with St. James’s Place
Switch The Play (StP) has formed a strategic partnership with prestigious wealth management company, St. James’s Place, that will see hundreds of sports people benefit from an educational StP Masterclass programme designed to equip elite and professional athletes for a successful life outside of sport.
As part of the new partnership, St. James’s Place is sponsoring up to 300 subsidised spaces for athletes to attend a range of StP masterclasses and both parties are inviting sports people and organisations to register their interest now to secure a place on the programme.
In its recent Mental Health Action plan for Elite Sports, the Government highlighted the fact that preparing for life outside of sport was a key factor in preventing some of the potential pitfalls athletes may experience when they retire from top level sport.
By helping athletes, clubs and sporting organisations implement a plan of action that utilises StP’s leading support services, the new partnership will go some way to empowering elite sport to meet the Government’s 2024 deadline for clear mental health strategies to be in place.
StP’s CEO Leon Lloyd says, “Switch The Play is passionate about helping as many athletes as possible, so we are delighted with the St. James’s Place sponsorship, which will enable us to extend our services. The team at St. James’s Place also champion positive transitions for elite athletes and have first-hand experience of the valuable attributes professional sportspeople can bring to a corporate environment.”
Since creating its prestigious Academy five years ago, St. James’s Place has successfully transitioned several elite sports people into wealth management careers, recognising the unique skill set that athletes acquire during their training and competing.
Mike Blunt, St. James’s Place Partnership Director, explains, “Partnering with Switch The Play was a natural progression for us. Elite athletes are highly self-motivated, natural goal setters, but unfortunately too many are unaware of how transferable their skills are.
“By working with Switch The Play we aim to increase the reach and impact of its education programme, helping more sports people experience a positive transition to life outside of sport.”
StP has already supported a number of elite athletes to transition out of sport, read here for more details.
StP is inviting athletes and sporting organisations to benefit from this new provision by registering an interest here. Alternatively, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
