14 Jul Switch The Play takes Masterclass to BUCS Conference 2017 and Helps with the Challenges Facing Student Athletes
Leon Lloyd delivered a transition 101 masterclass on the subject of fulfilling your potential through and beyond sport at the 2017 BUCS Conference.
Delegates engaged heavily in the session and highlighted some of the common challenges facing student athletes. The theme of achieving balance between sporting and academic priorities came up time and again.
There was strong endorsement from the room regarding the transferable skills that athletes exhibit, which can translate powerfully to other walks of life and possible future careers.
Switch The Play has strong origins and an affinity with the HE sector, including its ‘prac-ademic’ associates and a host of Ambassadors from the sector who have a passion for this area. We recognise the important role that the sector plays in either providing a safety net for young players released from professional sport academies, or conversely in being an important part of the upward curve for future Olympians and Paralympians.
The BUCS conference is a latest in a busy summer of events for the Switch The Plan team having been invited to speak at various different national events and forums including the Premier League Player Care Conference, Sport Resolutions UK, the Scottish Student Sport Conference, the Sport and Leisure Forum, and Elevate for instance.
Leon said, ‘it was great to present to such as engaged group of people who have the interests of the athlete at the heart of what they do. There is a lot of good work being done by the HE sector and we look forward to playing our part to help.’
