The Rugby Players Association (RPA) hosted its latest Transition Talk in conjunction with Switch the Play (StP), CEO, Leon Lloyd, and his former Rugby Union teammate, Peter Short, talked to the senior squad of Leicester Tigers’ players about preparing for life outside of sport.
Around 30 players from the senior squad, along with other club members, attended the event to hear about Leon and Peter’s personal transition experiences, plus gather some practical advice to help them plan their own exit route.
One player, Tom Young, tweeted after the event, “Great to have Leon Lloyd and Peter Short with Switch the Play and the RPA in today talking all things after Rugby. I enjoyed it and it made me think, am I doing enough? It gave me some good learnings and points to help me plan for life outside of rugby.”
Next year, StP is planning to return and talk to younger players from the Leicester Tigers’ Academy.
Leon Lloyd says, “It is always a pleasure talking to current players about transition and encourage them to think outside of sport. Hearing that Tom (Young) will now start to make positive steps towards planning for life outside of sport because of what he heard at the Masterclass, is exactly the result we want.”
