Associates

Purpose of the class

Identify a set of tangible skills that have formed through the foundation of sports performance experiences that can be used in other careers or study.

Who’s it for?

Individual sportspeople, groups of sportspeople (teams), dual-career athletes or sporting organisations/practitioners

Why this masterclass?

Throughout a sporting career, athletes will be exposed to environments and situations that facilitate the development of a number of tangible skills. In order to be successful outside of sport, athletes need to be able to identify, communicate and utilise these skills. Having the ability to bounce back from setbacks, being a good communicator and making decisions under intense pressure are all everyday skills that employers desperately seek to enhance their teams. But having the skills is not enough. This masterclass will teach you how to identify your soft skills use these skills in other disciplines and careers too.

Mini-masterclasses can be tailored to be between 45 and 90 minutes long. Full masterclasses are three hours long.

The most important thing I learnt in this masterclass was how different transferable skills can be applied in other areas so that I can become more employable. Also, I understood the importance of soft skills, which can sometimes be more relevant than actual sector skills.

Christian Ene, Loughborough University

It is very informative and teaches important skills that can be applied in and outside of football. I realised that there is life after football and we need to maximise of chances of being able to cope with it and this gives us a good chance of a successful career afterwards.
